The Variable Insulation Garment (VIG) fastens into the survival suit, so that the suit and liner are donned as a single item.

The VIG has ventilation to provide breathability in air. In an emergency, it can be inflated by activating a CO2 cylinder to provide increased insulation in the water. It is fitted with a detachable, washable, absorbent skirt, which is designed to draw away any moisture into an absorbent pad, separated from the body by a membrane.

The VIG is part of the award winning Integrated Survival System developed for BP and ConocoPhillips.
